We’re tempted to believe that despair-lifting prayers should be aimed at those people and circumstances which cause us despair. But this thinking doesn’t get to the root of the problem- your despair.
What’s needed is a personal overhaul (although I admit it seems easier to put the burden of lifting your despair on others). The fact remains that you have the power to live joyfully no matter what circumstances you find yourself in. Jesus said, “I have come to give life, full of joy and abundance.” (John 10:10).
So prayers that truly lift despair should focus primarily on you. After all, if you tackle sin, immaturity, and instability in your own life, it stands to reason you’ll experience all the benefits of freedom, maturity, and stability…which have a habit of lifting despair.
Praying the following prayers will shed light on those things that are tripping you up. These prayers can be repeated daily and are extremely effective for lifting despair.
3 Prayers That Lift Despair
- Father, Show me how often I say one thing and do another.
- Lord, How often have I set a standard for others only to break it myself?
- Jesus, Am I readily violating my conscience and the Lord’s reasonable teachings?
Why do these prayers lift despair? Because our spiritual immaturity and instability are often the cause of despair.
When we stand mature in God’s teachings and are fully formed in the likeness of the Anointed (a life-long process), we will no longer be like children, tossed around here and there upon ocean waves, pick up by every gust of religious teaching spoken by liars or swindlers or deceivers (Ephesians 4).
Let’s ask the tough questions that lift despair. So that we will be filled with the knowledge of the Son of God, standing mature in His teachings (your life aligned with God’s Word) and fully formed in the likeness of the Anointed, our Liberating King.
